Your thought process and comments conti...Hi Scott,

Your thought process and comments continue to help me process my feelings and emotions that surround this significant historical event in the timeline of the LDS Church. Many of my feelings mirror those you've articulated so well. I appreciate being able to "mourn with those who mourn" about the discontinuation of the LDS BSA relationship.

My life has been blessed because of scouting in my youth, and as an adult. I can't think of a way to separate Scouting from who I've become. But, like you mentioned, I doubt I would have sought out scouting on my own if it had not been for the LDS BSA relationship. My father was a convert to the LDS church and did not have scouting in his life as a young man. However, as a member of the bishopric when I was 12, he became the COR and very involved with me and all of my younger brothers in JLT at the time (Silver Moccasin in the GSLC). All his boys became Eagle Scouts. Some are active in the Church, some are not, but guaranteed, all of us have been blessed by the principles of the scout oath and law in our lives.

It will be strange to eventually tell my grandsons things like, "when I was about your age, when we did Scouting in the Church, I was a Boy Scout and we went camping almost every month." One of the things I can remember through the drudgery that was called "Jr. High" was the anticipation of going on the monthly camp out we planned with our troop. I sure hope the new youth initiatives include some flexibility that would allow for camping. There's nothing quite like the deeply spiritual experience of quietly reflecting around a campfire after sharing testimonies of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Thanks for all of your insightful posts. I know I can always reach your site by just typing "re" in my Chrome URL. I look forward to following you in the future.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14990411602378350171noreply@blogger.com
